Vicky Lau to organise series of charity events for International Women’s Day

February 9, 2019 by Food and Wine Gazette Leave a Comment

HONG KONG: Vicky Lau, one of Hong Kong’s leading female chefs and chef of Michelin starred TATE Dining Room, as well as best female chef of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2015, has unveiled a series of culinary events that will take place on Friday 8 March 2019 to coincide with the International Women’s Day.

Proceeds from the events will be donated to the Women’s Foundation, a non-profit organisation  dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in Hong Kong through groundbreaking research, impactful community programs and education and advocacy of the empowerment of the female voice.

Vicky Lau uses visual artistry from her previous life as a graphic designer and is considered one of the top chefs of  Innovative French Chinese fine dining in Hong Kong, Her innate creativity is evident in the seasonally-evolving tasting menu of “Edible Stories”, each course designed by the chef to evoke emotions and stir the imagination with an intriguing play on flavours and textures.

Her skills and artistic talent earned TATE Dining Room’s first Michelin Star in 2013, successfully maintaining its star in the years that followed. In 2017, TATE Dining Room relocated to a more versatile reincarnation on Hollywood Road, which also houses Lau’s new dessert venture on the ground floor, Poem Patisserie.

“In such a competitive field as F&B, it’s important for us women to encourage each other to break barriers. I owe a lot of my achievements today to the strong and powerful women that have inspired me in the past. Similarly, I hope to be able to empower aspiring female chefs,” said Vicky Lau.

Private Charity Cooking Class at V-ZUG Hong Kong

From 11am-2pm on 8th March (Friday), Chef Vicky Lau will host a private International Women’s Day cooking class at V-ZUG Hong Kong. The cooking class will include a total of three dishes taught with a hands-on demonstration, and available for a maximum capacity of ten students. The class is priced at HK$2,500 per student, and includes a glass of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs and a three-course lunch made by the participants. All proceeds will be donated towards The Women’s Foundation. For bookings, enquire with V-ZUG Hong Kong or at TATE Dining Room.

Special 8-Course Cocktail Pairing Dinner by TATE Dining Room X The Old Man

On 8 March for one night only, 1-Michelin-starred TATE Dining Room will join forces with award-winning bar The Old Man, currently no. 10 on World’s 50 Best Bars, no. 5 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars and winner of DMBA 2018’s Asia Bar and Bartender of the Year Awards. Showcasing the Power of Female in the local F&B industry, Chef Vicky Lau will work alongside bartender Natalie Lau of The Old Man to create an exclusive 8-course cocktail-paired dinner menu priced at HK$1680 per guest (cocktail pairing at an additional HK$580). 15% of all proceeds from the night will be donated towards The Women’s Foundation.

I am excited to be contributing towards a cause I feel passionately about, especially as a woman working within a male-dominated industry. I hope this collaboration inspires other women to join the movement for female empowerment within F&B, and believe in themselves more.” – Natalie Lau, Bartender at The Old Man.
