About

Food and Wine Gazette

Hi my name is Ivan and I am the founder of Food and Wine Gazette, a website that celebrates the good things in life and my passion for food, wine meeting interesting people, discovering new things, telling stories and writing.

Food and Wine Gazette started in September 2014 as a way to express my creativity. My passion for food, wine and writing dates back much longer.

I’ve lived for most of my life in the Mediterranean island of Malta before moving to Belgium in 2005 for professional reasons. So it stands to reason that there is a certain emphasis to all things Mediterranean as well as Belgium. But of course the world is a global village and I do not limit myself to only Belgium or my home country.

Here I try to bring my perspective on the food and wine world. I cover events, interview chefs, producers and entrepreneurs in the food and wine world trying to find a unique angle. Given that I have interviewed quite a few of the world’s best chefs you can find an page dedicated to these interviews.

In my conversations with chefs, I try to look at what inspires them, their cooking philosophy, their work as entrepreneurs, activists, cooks and how they go about their creative process. Chefs today are not just cooks, they are also artists, personalities, entrepreneurs and in some cases even celebrities. They are people with interesting stories, driven by passion and with an incredible work ethic.

I believe that many lessons can be drawn from them and can be applied to varies fields and walks of life.

Food and Wine Gazette is also a place where you can find news about what is going on in the world of gastronomy. Here you will find news on restaurant openings, events, awards and much more.

A few words about me. My first job and my first passion was journalism. Professionally, I’ve covered pretty much everything from sports (that’s where I started) to news, business, politics, crime and pretty much anything in between.

But before starting Food and Wine Gazette I had never thought of combining my passion for food and wine and write about it. I had actually stopped writing for a good 12 years.

Once I started writing again, I realised how much I had missed it.  I do this in my free time so time is a constraint. I’d love to do so much more but with a full-time job and a family that’s not always easy.

Since 2018, I am also one of the judges of the newly launched World Restaurant Awards and was one of the few ‘inspectors’ who travelled the world to ‘inspect’ restaurants short-listed in different categories.

Follow Food and Wine Gazette on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter for up to date information on what is going on in the food and wine world.

The best way to keep informed about what is going on in the world of gastronomy and wine is to subscribe to our weekly newspaper.
