Details of Alinea Madrid pop-up restaurant announced

October 13, 2015 by Ivan Brincat Leave a Comment

IMG_3242Booking for Alinea Madrid, the pop-up restaurant of the Chicago-based Grant Achatz, considered as one of the most inventive chefs in the world is now open as details of the restaurant have been announced.

Alinea Madrid will launch on January 12 and will stay open till February 6. This American restaurant is considered to be one of the best in the world and is a collaboration between chef Grant Achatz and restauranteur Nick Kokonas.

Alinea Madrid said that the history of Alinea is inextricably linked with the modernist cuisine of Spain. It is no secret that Achatz, like many contemporary chefs, has been inspired by pioneering Spanish chefs like Arzak and Adria to embrace culinary innovations and risk-taking.

“On both sides of the Atlantic, dining as an experience, both cultural and artistic, has allowed chefs a new freedom to rethink what a restaurant can be…and in turn to give patrons exciting and delicious ways to enjoy dining out,” says Grant Achatz.

Alinea Madrid fulfills a dream for Achatz and this team to bring Alinea as close as possible to Spanish palates. They are opening the restaurant in partnership with NH Hotels and with the help of chef Dani Garcia’s group and the agency Mateo&Co. Achatz is taking his entire staff to Madrid for a month to present two distinct experiences.

40% of bookings have been made available as of today. The remaining 40% will be made available in December and the remaining 20% in January. The restaurant will serve around 80 guests per evening in total.

In the first week from January 12 to January 16, Achatz is teaming up with 3 Michelin star chef David Munoz of DiverXo to offer what is being called an Up/Down collaboration dinner. The meal will begin either in DiverXo or Alinea Madrid and midway through the menu, guests will go to the other restaurant. The tasting menus will play off one another, contrasting and complementing styles and creating a once in a lifetime evening which promises to be full of surprises.

Between January 19 and February 6, chef Achatz, chef Bagale and his team will present a degustation menu at the NH Hotel Eurobuilding. It will be far from the typical pop-up with Achatz faithfully represeting the 3-Michelin star cuisine of Alinea while at the same time paying homage and honouring the culinary heritage of Spain.

Details of how to book can be found on the dedicated website.
