350 restaurants in 15 countries to take part in fundraiser this week

April 19, 2022 by Ivan Brincat Leave a Comment

350 restaurants in 15 countries are standing together to help those in need. The collective of restaurants owned by young chefs JRE has chosen Thursday April 21 as the day they will raise funds for charities of choice with the main focus being the refugee crisis created by the war in Ukraine.

In Belgium, member restaurants will pay EUR 10 for every person eating in their restaurant on 21 April. JRE Belgium said that they have chosen 12-12 as the organisation they will support. 12-12 provides children with immediate assistance and ensure they have access to food, health care and a safe living environment.

The consortium 12-12 brings together seven humanitarian organisations that coordinate their fundraising efforts in Belgium during serious crisis or natural disasters in developing countries. The aim of the joint action is to raise the necessary financial resources to finance humanitarian operations in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries facing a strong influx of refugees from Ukraine.

With these funds, aid programmes will be setup in the field of urgent health care, nutrition, water supply, hygiene, education, counselling and protection.

The Belgian restaurants that are taking part in the initiative are Altermezzo in Tongeren, Au Moriane in Liege, Attablez-vous in Namur, Bistro Jett in Knokke, Bistrok Philippe in Alken, L’Horizon in Chaumont-Gistoux, L’Imperatif in Roucourt, La Canne en Ville in Brussels, La Fleur de Thym in Houfflaize, La Gloriette in Marche en Famenne, La Table de la Manufacture Urbaine in Charleroi, Les Abris in Zottegem, Les Gribaumonts in Mons, Maison D in ronse-Renaix, O de Vie in Juprelle, Sarriette in Peer and Vous le Vous in Wimmertingen as well as in De Fakkels in St Truiden, Sprimont in Didier Galet, Fidalgo in Tienen, Hostellerie Saint-Nicolas in Elverdinge-Ieper, Le Coriandre in Brussels and Lucana in Wanze.

Restaurants in other parts of the world will organise different fundraising activities. It is also possible to directly support JRE here. The proceeds will go to Save The Children as the Charity to support in their effort to rehome, feed and rehabilitate Children and their Mothers. Save The Children is the world’s largest children’s Charity, doing whatever it takes to protect Children from harm and ensure they have access to food, healthcare and a safe environment. Through this JRE Charity Event, we aim to raise money for the Children that are directly affected by the humanitarian crisis that is unfolding in Europe.

In 1974, JRE started as a small French association under the name Jeunes Restaurateurs de France. Thanks to the great success, and the interest of Germany, Italy, Belgium and Switzerland first, the association was renamed Jeunes Restaurateurs d’Europe in 1993. The Netherlands and Spain followed shortly afterwards. Today the JRE-Jeunes Restaurateurs are active in 16 European countries with “Jeunes Chefs”, together we have more than 180 Michelin stars and today there is even the ambition to go intercontinental.
